Every Thursday morning while the rest of Sydney sleeps, the Sydney Farmers Markets is a pecking ground for early birds. Cafe owners Valentina & Rob of Something For Jess in Chippendale, wake early to get the freshest produce and to keep their fingers on the pulse of what’s in season for their cafe. After taking over the cafe, they have been constantly evolving the place — keeping it fresh and original, whilst maintaining their ethos of locality and sustainability.
Valentina has created an inviting, quirky space with soft blue walls, writing desks for tables and mismatched chairs. The atmosphere of the cafe is completely uplifting which Valentina & Rob whittle down to their team who each bring an individual dynamic to the cafe.
With a love for food and experimenting in the kitchen, Something for Jess makes the seemingly difficult task of changing the breakfast and lunch menu weekly into a joy. There is no room for complacency, which is shown in the calibre of everything they create.
Their eggs are from Clarendon Valley Farm on the central coast where the chooks are never confined and given almost twice as much space to roam than most free range egg brands. For Something For Jess, it’s a no-brainer to use such produce, since they believe the difference can be tasted. A2 milk blends brilliantly with their single origin Ethiopian coffee. The coffee has a round flavour hinted with stone-fruit flavours and has been roasted exclusively for Something For Jess.
